Maija Karklina was born in 1987 in Jelgava, Latvia. At the age of six, she received first piano lessons from Silvija Audre. In 2007 she continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Prof. Otto Niederdorfer. She has won several international prizes including First prize at the "Claudio Arrau Piano Competition" in Chile and First prize at the International Piano Competition "Forum per tasti" in Slovakia. Maija Karklina performs regularly as a soloist and accompanist and is an active member of various chamber music and contemporary music ensembles. Since October 2014, she is a senior lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
Fiona Fortin was born in Graz and received her first piano lessons at the Johann-JosephFux-Conservatory. She often participated in the young musicians’ competition “Prima la musica” in the categories piano solo, chamber music and as a young accompanist and received several first prizes. In 2012 she received the first prize at the international piano competition “Forum Per Tasti” in Banská Bystrica (sk). After finishing school she studied Piano with Prof. Eugen Jakab at the University for Music and Performing Arts, where she graduated with distinction in 2016. She is currently studying Music Education. Fiona Fortin works as a piano teacher in Graz-St. Peter and regularly collaborates with singers and instrumentalists for different concerts. She took masterclasses for piano solo and chamber music with Anke Schittenhelm, Annamaria Bodoky-Krause, Eugen Jakab, Alexander Jenner and Robert D. Levin.
